OHW: Mental Health
Corktown Campus Counseling
The Office of Health & Wellness (OHW) has in-person counseling to help with navigating feelings, stress, worry, depression, relationships and more. This service is at no additional cost to UDM students. Our office is located in the Clinic Building, Room 425, and can be done through telehealth on an as needed basis. All UDM Dental students can schedule through our secure, confidential platform with their UDM email address. On-campus counseling is typically short term and builds tools and skills for the individual to practice with the counselor and use as needed.
Available Session for Self Scheduling
- Sounding Board (15 minutes): a casual, non-therapeutic chat. This is a great opportunity for a quick meet and greet, or just to touch base.
- Personal Session (50 minutes): A focused therapy session designed to explore, navigate and understand your personal journey. Let’s work together to find meaningful insight and growth.
- You + Another (up to 90 minutes): A session for you and a friend or partner, where we’ll work on improving communication and understanding your relationship.
Additional Sessions Therapist Can Schedule As Needed
- Drop-in (TBD): If you need to talk now or just want to say hi, swing by and if we're available, we’ll chat. This is an informal, on-the-spot conversation and non-therapeutic.
- Practice Session (30 minutes): For those moments when you don’t need a full therapy session and would like to practice skills and tools. We’ll schedule this together when it’s the best fit for your needs.
TimelyCare
TimelyCare is also no additional cost to the student for sessions. UDM Dental currently has six options for student counseling with TimelyCare. Students can go to UDM Dental TimelyCare or download the TimelyCare app.
Students must sign in with their Detroit Mercy email address.
- TalkNow: 24/7/365: Talk in the moment with a licensed therapist. There is no scheduling needed. When a student selects this option, they will receive a therapist within about two minutes and the therapist can be a nonjudgement place to vent, get quick assistance with coping skills or a 30 minute in the moment talk. If you are looking for the same therapist each time, this is not your option.
- Schedule Counseling: Students can schedule a time to visit with a licensed therapist within two days. Students are allotted 12 visits per academic year.
- Psychiatry: To schedule with psychiatry, a student needs a referral from UDM Dental’s Office of Health & Wellness counselor.
- Health Coaching: Students can schedule a 30 minute session with a certified health coach to give you direct coaching on behavior change and lifestyle growth.
- Peer Community: This space is where students can safely post to other college students and receive their peer perspective and advice. This service is monitored by licensed therapists to ensure safety.
- Self-Care Content: This content will show up on the student’s home page once you have logged in. Students can customize this content to receive information on the areas they wish to grow.
Corktown Campus Peace Room - Clinic Building, Room 425C
We all have moments when we need to break, rest, pause — whichever word you call it, it’s important and sometimes hard to find in the study and bustle of school and clinic life. OHW has created a space specifically for this purpose: a room to unplug and disconnect for a moment so you can reconnect with yourself. We try to set a calming environment where you can color, read — not school stuff — close your eyes and be still. Stop in whenever you need it; five minutes can make a huge difference in giving you the extra energy or motivation to fully show up for your academic studies and patients.
