Apply to the Summer Enrichment Program

The 2024 Summer Enrichment Program will take place from May 1 - June 28, 2024.

Required Application Materials
Please prepare the following prior to completing your application:
  • Official transcripts from each college/university attended. Unofficial versions will not be accepted. Your university should mail or email official transcripts directly to the SEP Admissions Committee at the address below.
  • Current resume or CV: This should be emailed to the address below.
  • Copies of all DAT scores should be emailed to the address below.
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation:
    • 2 from college or university science instructors and 1 from a dentist with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree. The applicant may email signed letters on official letterhead as PDFs in the online application or have recommendations send them via mail or email to the addresses below.
    • If you applied to Detroit Mercy Dental in the 2022/23 or 2023/24 cycles, please type “waived and enter your dentpin” under the references on the online application. We will use your recommendation letters on file.
  • If you qualify as an economically disadvantaged student, a copy of your own and/or your Parent(s)/Guardian(s)’ Federal Income Tax Form (e.g., 1040 or 1040a) is required. This should be emailed to the address below.
  • Statement of Disadvantage:
    • In an essay of 1000 words or fewer, please provide details explaining your economically and/or educationally disadvantaged status if you qualify in one of these categories. This should be typed into the online application. If you do not qualify in one of these categories, this statement is optional.
  • Personal Statement:
    • In an essay of 1000 words or fewer to be typed into the online application, please describe your dental interests, goals, motivation, background, and reasons for wanting to participate in this program. Please address some of the following questions/topics in your essay: 
      • Why have you decided to pursue a career in the dental profession?
      • What are your goals as a dental professional?
      • Explain your desire to participate in the Summer Enrichment Program and why you are a great candidate for this program.
      • Describe your experience while shadowing staff at a dental office and/or clinic.
      • Discuss your commitment to provide care in underserved communities. This may include any personal life experiences you have had involving health issues in an underserved or disadvantaged area. Explain how these have motivated you to pursue a career in dentistry.

Application Deadline is February 15 by 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST).
The online application AND all required materials must be received by the deadline.
